The contemporary world is growing increasingly complex, driven by the dynamic interconnectedness of networks comprising actors, organizations, states, policies, technologies, and interventions. Simulating and modeling such networks through the paradigms of complex adaptive systems and agent-based modeling is critical to the ability to maintain, manage, sustain, evaluate, and improve systemic performance. In this regard, systems engineering—encompassing built systems (e.g., aerospace and civil infrastructure), natural systems (environmental and resource-based), and socio-economic systems—constitutes an interdisciplinary approach that facilitates successful system development. Innovation within systems engineering entails the generation and implementation of novel concepts, alongside the development of techniques that expand, transform, or improve existing knowledge and methods, typically yielding greater efficiency, effectiveness, and problem-solving capacity. Nevertheless, currently available rapid-prototyping platforms, while enabling swift iteration, remain insufficient for developing and deploying enterprise-grade solutions. Future tools will empower users to design, implement, analyze, visualize, and comprehensively validate systems and their emergent outcomes. Consequently, this journal aspires to advance the field of complex adaptive systems across a broad spectrum of transdisciplinary domains and to offer practical and theoretical solutions for the multifaceted challenges confronting this evolving discipline.

The main purpose of the Journal of Complex Adaptive Systems (JCAS) is to provide an intellectual environment for researchers to discuss their latest findings about system engineering science and complex adaptive systems. So, the goal is to encourage the sharing of knowledge in different fields (see Aims & Scope), which will result in stronger papers in this field. Therefore, it is hoped that this publication will improve the state of the field of complex adaptive systems in a wide range of transdisciplinary topics at the international level and provide solutions for theoretical and practical issues facing this interdisciplinary and multifaceted topic. This publication can be considered and used by researchers and those interested in this field by providing a suitable platform for the presentation and development of system engineering models at the international level.
